The Bostwick family (also spelt Bostock, Bostick, Bosticke or Bostwicke) came to America in 1639..

Arthur Bostwick (1603–1680)

• 1603 Dec. 22 – Baptized in Tarporley Parish, Cheshire County, North West England.^{(GBF #1, pp.33–46)}
• 1628ᴳ Jan. 8 – Married Jane Whittel in St Helen’s Church, they had five children: (Jane was probably a daughter of Rev. Robert Whittel, the Puritan rector from 1613–1638)
  1. Mary – 1630ᴳ Jan. 18,^(GBF #2) married George Dobson 1653 Sept. 24 in Boston.
  2. Jane – 1632ᴳ Jan. 29.^(GBF #3)
  3. Ellen – 1633 Dec. 23.^(GBF #4)
  4. Arthur Jr. – 1636 May 8.^(GBF #5)
  5. John – 1638 Oct. 18,^(GBF 6) married Mary Brinsmead 1665, they had seven children. (q.v.)
• c. fall 1638 – Jane presumably died, there being no record of her after John’s birth.
• c. spring 1639 – Arthur moved to the American colonies with Mary, John and “other children”.
• 1639 – Was one of the first seventeen settlers of Stratford, Connecticut.
• c.1640s – Married Ellen (also spelt Ellene or Hellene) Johnson, a widow from New Jersey.
• c.1658 – Had a property dispute with Ellen that required court intervention.
• 1677 May 13 – Ellen (née Johnson) Bostwick died.
• 1680 Dec. 10 – last record (a division of land from Ellen’s estate) showing Arthur alive.

John Bostwick Sr. (1638–1688)

• 1638 Oct. 18 – Baptized at St Helen’s Church, Tarporley.^{(GBF #6, pp.46–51)}
• 1639 – The family is among the first settlers of Stratford, Connecticut.
• 1665 – Married Mary Brinsmead—born 1640 July 24 in Charlestown, Mass. to John and Mary (née Carter) Brinsmead—in Stratford, they had seven children, all born in Stratford:
  1. John Jr. – 1667 May 4,^(GBF #7) married Abigail Walker c.1687, they had eleven children. (q.v.)
  2. Zachariah – 1669 July 25,^{(GBF #8, pp.55–62)} married Elizabeth ——, married Coziah ——, they had ten children.

• c.1687 – Married Abigail Walker—born 1673ᴳ Feb. 17 in Stratford to Joseph and Abigail (née Pruden) Walker—they had eleven children:

• 1712ᴳ Jan. 30 – Married Mercy Bushnell—born 1687 in Danbury, Connecticut to Francis and Hannah (née Seymour) Bushnell—they had five sons:

• 1725–’27 & 1732–’40 – Deputy for New Milford in the Connecticut Colony House of Representatives.
• 1732–’41 – Justice of the Peace in New Milford.
• 1733 May – Appointed Ensign in the Trainband, serving for many years.
• 1739 Oct. – Appointed Major of the newly formed Connecticut Militia Nineteenth Thirteenth Regiment.^[1] He was generally called “Major John” since.
• 1741 June 12 – John III died in New Milford (estate details, BF pp.76–82).
• 1767 Sept. 5 – Mercy died in New Milford.

• 1733ᴳ Jan. 18 – Married Jemima Canfield—born 1706 in New Milford to Jeremiah and Alice Canfield—they had six sons:

• 1768 Oct. 8 – Born New Milford, Connecticut.^{(GBF #676, p.236)} Lyman had five wives, but surviving records only name the fifth.
• Married Robie Fisk, his fifth wife, they had six children according to GBF.
  1. Nathan – 17__,^(GBF #1446) died young.
  2. Alba – 17__,^(GBF #1447) died in the War of 1812.
  3. Rebecca – 17__,^(GBF #1448) married Adam Waldorf, they had three children.
  4. Jemima – 1795 Nov. 4,^(GBF #1452) born in Starksboro, Vt., married Orange Bostwick Spencer 1812 Sept. 2 in Unadilla, NY, they had three children.
  5. Lyman Jr. – 1802 Sept. 10.^(GBF #1453) (q.v.)
